Spring Cleaning Made Easy

When the warm weather starts to return, it signals a time to change, a time to get rid of clutter and make way for the newness that will flow into our lives in the coming seasons. And it doesn’t take a lot of effort to notice some real change around your house. Try these handy tips and get the most out of your spring cleaning chores…

Boxing clever

“Where did I put that again?” If you’ve ever muttered this phrase to yourself then you’ll appreciate the value of a good box. Grouping all your loose items into boxes will not only make them easier to find, but will declutter your house and make it feel a lot more spacious. Go room by room and decide what can be neatly stored away.

Clear boxes are great for smaller, indoor items that you need to access frequently, while bluer larger black boxes can store more heavy duty items you only use now and then – perfect for use outdoors or in a shed or garage.

A toolbox is not only for tools. It can be a very useful way to store smaller items too (like all the bits and bobs you throw into that one messy drawer in the kitchen). It has multiple compartments that can be used to separate and categorise everything from pens and flash sticks to batteries and lightbulbs; all those little odds and ends that you never know quite where to put.

Out with the old

Spring cleaning requires some tough decisions. You need to get rid of the old to make space for the new. Go through your house room by room and decide what you can do without or don’t use. A good rule of thumb is “If you haven’t used it or worn it in 6 months – it can go.” Then make two piles. Things that need to be thrown out and things that others might still appreciate. Pack them up separately in different colour bags so you’ll know which is which. Black bags go in the bin. Clear bags go to charity.

A little elbow grease Now that everything is nicely packed away and its right place, and your house is feeling a lot more spacious, it’s the perfect time to give the whole house a thorough cleaning. So grab that mop and bucket cleaner and roll up your sleeves. This final burst of effort will be worth it when your house is sparking clean!
